A portrait illustration project for Canadian Design Agency, Instrument. During an in house rebranding Instrument commissioned me for portraits of members of their communications team.
These watercolours are clean and monochrome with subtle highlights and remanent brushwork. They aim to balance likeness with a stylistic approach to bring life into the profile of each designer.
Abaca Sustainable Bags
A branding and product design exercise for sustainable shopping and lifestyle bag company, Abaca. Abaca’s philosophy is to create low carbon bags with a focus on product lifecycle assessment’s in order to give consumers the knowledge they need to shop sustainably.
This project required extensive research into sustainable fabrics and manufacturing processes. The inherent textures and patterns of these natural fibers, combined with the recycle bag logo were the focus of identity. The project also required technical drawings, video production, flat illustration, print layout and tag design.
Working with the University of Newcastle’s Family Action Centre I created web and print media as a team member on the SMS4dads campaign. SMS4dads is an ongoing social initiative to help young Indigenous fathers struggling with parenthood.
I developed the SMS4dads Coffs Harbour web pages and several posters which circulated the area. This content adhered to the existing SMS4dads style guide, while some indigenous styled posters were uniquely developed.
Crowne Plaza App
An exercise in app development creating a networking and utility application for Crown Plaza hotels.
This application enhances the user experience of a Crown Plaza stay. Basic utility and functionality are made easier with 24/7 digital check in and room key as well as taxi, room service and information integration.
The app also approaches a unique networking and profile management system for young professionals. Guests are linked with one another to build professional and personal relationships during their stay.
UoN Cafe Mural
The University of Newcastle commissioned me for several walls to be decorated with garden inspired designs inside the university’s primary on campus cafe and bar, Bar on the Hill.
With free reign on the execution of this project I wanted to do something that students would appreciate and be inspired by. Their are so many elements in these walls that the eye gets lost and and stumbles across something new with each glance. Using a bold and restrained palette with a thick, white outline forces the illustration to burst off the wall.
Montemo Travel App
An exercise in app development creating a travel service for fictional town Montemo, Nevada, USA. This application provides weather, accommodation, activities, local tours, dining, shopping, maps and directions in a comprehensive and easy to navigate resource.
The app also integrates the services of other relevant applications from local bird watching and fishing guides, hiking trails and maps to daily UV sunlight readings.
American traditional tattoos have a rich history, and are a rich resource of classic and time tested designs.
Practicing this style has influenced and educated my use of composition, colour, line weight, negative space and the value in keeping things simple. This illustrative style has great potential for adaptation to design and branding and current clothing trends.
